Good bye little Princess

6 years ago today, our little lady came into our lives from the Morongo Basin Humane Society Animal shelter. Princess was three already and somewhat set in her ways. At first we found her sleeping on one of the beds in the extra bedroom. Then we found out she loved bread when she polished off a 6pack of English muffins, and a loaf of Wonder Bread. Dee would later observe her circling the living room waitimg for Dee to leave, so she could hop on the couch and try to bury her bone. Princess got "in charge" treats every day when we left for work.  I would leave them on the counter for Dee to give to her. Princess would snatch them up, and Dee would give her more, not knowing. Took a few months. She travelledd to Sedona and the rim of the Grand Canyon with us. Been co-captian on our pontoon boat. She'd sit with me the many times I fell.  Dee jumped into the freezing pool to save her life when Princess jumped in to get a toy and became sumerged under the cover. She played in the snow. All the grandkids played with her, rode her, gave exams to her, and she was a "doggie bag", hot dog, and other things for Halloween. Wore bandanna's all the time. Got dressed in her Dallas cowboy jersey, hid behind Dee when Dee would answer the door. Back in March, Princess was starting to feel the affects of travelling in the motor home.  Add in the fact that we had very cool weather, and she had torn ligaments in her hind two legs, we did what we could for her comfort. Plenty of different medications, lifting her in and out of the car.  Helping her into the motor home.. Lately, she was having nightmares, snoring so loud, she would wake herself up and surprise herself, She didn't run off like she used to when I took her leash off, no twirls, no jumping, just sleeping and having a hard time standing up.  Last night while in her sleep, she was breathing very very hard, and we could see the pain in her bloodshot eyes when she opened them.  Today, Dee and I said goodbye to our little lady.  It was very painful for the both of us. We both loved her very much, and she was a great companion. I was glad Dee was with me, as we were both overcome with emotion when they put our Princess to sleep. We didn't realize today until we broke out her papers that we had adopted her exactly 6 years ago  to the day. Princess was born "Pluto" as one of the 7 planets of her litter on June 21st, 2001. She was laid to rest today, and has got to be in a better place now, probably twirling around and playing somewhere. Enjoy some of our pictures of her.

  1. That is the saddest thing ever and brought tears to my eyes. Especially the last picture of Princess with Nana. It would have been more selfish to keep her alive and have her suffer. This was a tough decision but I too could see her pain and suffering....
